The Pupil Premium is allocated to children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals in both mainstream and non-mainstream settings and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months.
The Pupil Premium was introduced by Her Majesty's Government to try to narrow the gap in achievement and attainment between children on Free School Meals and those children not in receipt of Free School Meals.
Nationally in 2016, the picture was as follows:
FSM for Reading, Writing and Maths = 39.0%. This is 14% lower than other pupils nationally who achieved 53%.
At Fairfields in 2017, the proportion of FSM children achieving the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Maths was 63%.
Fairfields School adopts a number of strategies and activities in raising attainment and progression of disadvantaged children. These include 1: 1 tuition, small group support and provision mapping for children eligible for free school meals.
We are pleased to attach a letter, dated 26th January 2015, from the Rt Hon David Laws MP, Minister of State for Schools, congratulating Fairfields on the improvement in the Key Stage 2 results of our disadvantaged pupils since 2011.
